How much does a whole-house generator cost in South Florida?

Most whole-house generator installs in South Florida cost between $19,000 and $28,000, installed, permitted and inspected. Where your home lands in that range depends on generator size, fuel, panel condition and site work. A free on-site assessment turns the range into one fixed price in writing before any work starts.

What is included in the $19,000 to $28,000?

The range is for a complete, working system, not a generator on a pallet. Every item below is written into the proposal and covered by the fixed price, so you can compare it line by line against any other quote.

  • Load calculation at your home
  • The generator, mainly Generac or Kohler
  • Automatic transfer switch
  • Gas line to the generator
  • Electrical run to the panel
  • Pad anchored to Florida wind code
  • Crane or forklift to set the unit
  • Battery, startup and testing under real load
  • Permits and HOA approval, handled and closed out
  • Final inspection, with us on site
  • Owner training before we leave
  • First year of preventive maintenance

The full list of what every install includes is on the standby generators page.

What moves the price inside that range?

No two homes land in the same place. These are the factors that decide it. None of them can be judged from the street, which is why the assessment happens at your home.

FactorWhat we look atWhy it moves the price
Generator sizeSquare footage under air, air conditioning tonnage, every electric appliance, what must run at 2amThe load calculation sets the size, and the size sets the equipment cost. See what size generator your home needs.
Air-cooled or liquid-cooledMost 3 to 4 bedroom homes need 24 to 38 kW; air-cooled units reach about 30 kW, larger loads move to liquid-cooledLiquid-cooled units carry more load and cost more.
FuelNatural gas on the street, or a propane tank on the propertyTank size, above ground or buried, and the length of the gas run all change the number. See propane or natural gas.
Electrical panelAge, service size, room for the transfer switchSome panels need attention before a transfer switch can go in. You hear that at the assessment, not after the crane shows up.
SiteDistance to the panel, distance to the gas source, pad location, setbacks from windows, doors and property linesLonger runs and tighter lots take more labor and material.
City and HOAEach city has its own ordinances; many HOAs require approvalWe handle the permits and HOA approval. The requirements, and the time they take, vary by city.

Why won’t anyone give me a price over the phone?

Because a phone quote is a guess. Anyone quoting a whole-house price over the phone has not seen your panel, your gas supply or your lot.

The assessment takes the guessing out. We measure the home, count the loads, check the panel and walk the yard for the pad and the tank. Then we write one number. The proposal is the price. You see every line item before you sign, and the final invoice matches the proposal.

The assessment is free, and there is no obligation.

Does the propane tank add to the cost?

Most Florida homes do not have natural gas on the street, so most standby generators here run on propane from a tank on the property. Tank size (120 to 2,000 gallons), above ground or buried, and how far the line has to run are all worked out on the same assessment and appear in the same written proposal.

If your street has natural gas, we tie into it. There is no tank to buy and nothing to refill.

Can I finance it?

Yes. Financing is available through Synchrony Bank, subject to credit approval. One application can cover the generator and the fuel line. Call 954-439-5857 to ask what is available.

What does it cost to run and maintain after the install?

Your first year of preventive maintenance is included with every install. After that, 1-, 2- and 3-year plans are available and quoted after your assessment.

Fuel is the other ongoing cost. A standby generator burns very little between outages; the usual approach is to fill before hurricane season and top off when a storm is named.

The equipment is covered too. The generator carries a 5-year manufacturer warranty, under the manufacturer’s warranty terms, and our workmanship carries its own 5-year warranty.

How much does a whole-house generator cost in South Florida?

Most whole-house generator installs in South Florida land between $19,000 and $28,000, installed, permitted and inspected. Your free on-site assessment narrows that to one fixed price in writing before any work starts.

Is the price fixed, or can it change during the job?

It is fixed. The proposal is the price. You see every line item before you sign, and the final invoice matches the proposal. If the panel needs attention, you hear it at the assessment, not after work starts.

Does the price include the permit?

Yes. We handle the permits and HOA approval as part of the job, and we are on site for the final inspection. Cities in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach require permits and inspections for a standby generator.

Can I finance a whole-house generator?

Yes. Financing is available through Synchrony Bank, subject to credit approval. One application can cover the generator and the fuel line. Call 954-439-5857 to ask what is available.

How long does the installation take?

About 8 to 10 weeks from signed proposal to final inspection. Most of that time is the city’s permitting process. Once the permit is issued, installation and inspections take about 3 to 4 weeks.

What is covered after the install?

Your first year of preventive maintenance is included with every install: one visit with an oil change and a new oil filter, plus one emergency call if you need it. After that you can choose a 1-, 2- or 3-year plan. The generator carries a 5-year manufacturer warranty, under the manufacturer’s warranty terms, plus our 5-year workmanship warranty.
